WHAT IS A QUANDONG?
Firstly, the name is Quandong, not Condom!

Sometimes commonly known as Wild Peach, the Quandong has a red glossy exterior, approximately 4-6 mm thick, covering a large seed.

Fresh Quandong will always have a slight touch of refreshing acidity due to its extraordinary high vitamin C content. The Quandong can be eaten straight off the tree, and it is also dried and stored for further use. They are a healthy treat for the whole family.

LOCATION
Grown naturally in the arid and semi arid regions to the south-western part of the continent, the Quandong has been used for hundreds of years by the Aborigines, fresh and dried. This versatile fruit is best known for its lovely flavour in pies or stewed over ice cream. It can be eaten fresh or made into anything you like.

PREPARATION
Simply de-stone the fruit and it is ready to use. You can then stew the fruit and add a little sugar and serve with cream or ice cream or add some pastry and bake into a scrumptious pie. Substitute the apricots or tomatoes in your favourite recipe to make Quandong jam or Quandong relish. Dried Quandongs will keep for years, simply soak and cook. The Quandong can be pureed and used as either a sweet or savoury sauce for meat, fish or poultry. Honey may be used as a sweetener instead of sugar or add apple to make the fruit go further.

They can be packed in a jar of brandy, with sugar to taste, to make brandied Quandongs and a pleasant liqueur.
